Heal the Hurting

I love this. I think sometimes we withhold help or love for people because we assume things about them that we believe makes them undeserving. Cool thing I have learned is that we don't need to worry about all that. It is not our responsibility to decide if a person is deserving or not. Christ will take care of all of that. All He has asked us to do is to love each other and help our neighbor. Since we can't know what is going on in a person's life or mind, we can't know if they are deserving or not anyway. So let's just leave that job up to Christ. I like the way He handles judgement best anyway.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today is a day to celebrate one of my heroes: Martin Luther King, Jr. What a powerful activist for good who changed our country! I love that he taught to push for change through peaceful means. What a good example.

Today for home school we did an MLK themed day. I love how Belle gets it. One of the worksheets she worked on had a statement and then a blank spot for her to write "Just" or "Unjust". She came across one of them that said "People without money don't have homes". She said, "Mom, I don't know how to do this one because it's true that people without money don't have homes, but it shouldn't be that way." In my head I thought - atta girl!

A couple weeks ago we learned about China and one of the things we discussed was the one child law.
I guess she really didn't think that was fair. :)

I want to be a Martin Luther King, Jr. someday, as pie in the sky as that sounds. But I figure setting a goal and working toward it is going to get me closer to it than if I assume I can't and never try at all.

For my birthday my friend made a card for me that included what she called a 'happy list'. She listed things that I should be happy about. My favorite one is number 3:

Yeah, she gets me.

Merciful, Nonjudgmental, & Kind

This pretty much sums up what I think:

Love Elder Holland. I feel like he gets it.

We do not know where someone is on their journey and what has or is afflicting them. Most important thing I have learned is to assume the best with people and to love them in whatever way, shape, or form they are currently in. You never know when you are needed. If we are so worried about the path someone else is taking and trying to assume we know a better one for them instead of just loving them we may miss the opportunity to be of aide when they need us the most.
